Will Authorize.Net Akamai switch affect your nopCommerce store?

In the last few months we have received many requests from existing clients using Authorize.Net as a primary payment gateway concerned about the upcoming Authorize.Net gateway API changes.

Will this change affect your AbleCommerce or nopCommerce site? 

Short answer : NO

Long answer : If your site is running on any version of AbleCommerce or nopCommerce and Authorize.Net is the primary gateway your site Will Not be affected and should continue to process transactions.

While AbleCommerce and nopCommerce use different API endpoints (https://secure.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll and https://api.authorize.net/soap/v1/Service.asmx) both implementations will not be affected by this update. AuthorizeNet is just switching their network infrastructure from In-House implementation where they have to route all incoming API requests to more reliable cloud based provider like Akamai. The current API endpoints are still pointing to their old network and they encourage developers to start using the new API endpoints served by Akamai (https://api2.authorize.net/soap/v1/Service.asmx https://secure2.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll).

After June 30, 2016 the current https://secure.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll and https://api.authorize.net/soap/v1/Service.asmx are going to be automatically switched to Akamai SureRoute as well. The switch should not cause payment transaction issues.

In both AbleCommerce and nopCommerce implementations the endpoints are hardcoded in the source code and can not be changed without recompilation of  CommerceBuilder.AuthorizeNet.dll and Nop.Plugin.Payments.AuthorizeNet.

We have updated the nopCommerce code and updated the Authorize.Net plugin for all clients running on the nopCommerce. Since AbleCommerce is a closed source platform we don’t have access to the Auth.Net code and are unable to automatically provision updates for clients hosted and managed by us.

The Authorize.Net technical update is mainly for service providers who have authorized only specific endpoint IP’s in their server firewalls or have hard-coded the endpoint IP in the source code.

Tips to Improve Your Ecommerce Web Site

  1. If you’re launching a new site, or new content, write an introduction and submit it to social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit
  2. Have a GREAT product. All of the marketing/advertising in the world will do you NO good if your product is sub par.
  3. Use keywords in your image alt tags. For example, <img src=”image.gif” alt=”keywords go head” />
  4. Make sure to include appropriate keywords in your title tag, search engines show more prominence or importance to keywords here.
  5. Place appropriate keywords in your anchor text when linking.
  6. Purchase the misspelled versions of your domain name and have it redirect to your main one.
  7. Add a bookmark option to your website/blogs.
  8. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week.
  9. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites, especially at http://del.icio.us/.
  10. Add photos to your blog with appropriate keywords.
  11. Politely ask your readers to subscribe to your rss feeds.
  12. Encourage readers to comment on your blogs.
  13. Comment on other related blogs.
  14. Sell an item on eBay as a charity auction. Most charities will link back to both your auction and your main website.
  15. Build a tool that individuals in your niche will love and enjoy. Then give it away for free. If the tool is helpful, then you will get quality one-way links to your website.
  16. Write blog entries, always make sure to link back to your website with your blog posts. Try making multiple blogs and have them all link back to one main site.
  17. Submit your site to free, search engine directories using WebCeo Tool
  18. Conduct a survey using Constant Contact . This is an excellent way to generate offline publicity.
  19. Syndicate your site’s content by using an RSS feeds.
  20. Submit your RSS feeds to aggregator sites like FeedBurner
  21. Write an article related to your site and submit it to article sites.
  22. Sign up to StumbleUpon and get your friends to Stumble your site.
  23. Create a custom 404 page so that even if someone encounters an error on your site, they are re-directed somewhere nice.
  24. Set up a 301 redirect to take traffic from your non-www address to your www address.
  25. Add a link to your site in the signature of any forums you post on.
  26. Tell your friends about your site. It’s free advertising init.
  27. Speel cheek ur stie. Nothing appears more amateur than a site with typos or spelling mistakes.
  28. Test your site and make sure it appears correctly in all major browsers.
  29. Look for proffesional high-speed hosting service from http://www.drundo.com – No one likes a slow site.
  30. Don’t worry about PageRank – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJtchsFiQUo
  31. Offer something for free. Free is good. People tell their friends about free stuff.
  32. Tell your neighbours, you never know what contacts they might have.
  33. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.
  34. Whenever you send an email to someone, always add your website url as a signature.
  35. Make sure to view related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.
  36. Offer your users as many ways as possible to contact you. MSN, Skype, Yahoo etc all complement email, phone and a real address.
  37. Do NOT use frames.
  38. Make sure your website is listed in DMOZ: http://dmoz.org/
  39. Create an XML sitemap of your site and submit it to Google : http://code.google.com/p/googlesitemapgenerator/
  40. On your Contact Page ask people if they mind receiving your newsletter.
  41. Send out a newsletter using Constant Contact
  42. Go to a free seminar for Website owners. You might learn something.
  43. Find quality and relevant blogs and leave a comment (with a link back to your site of course).
  44. Don’t pay people to submit your site to search engines. It’s a waste of money.
  45. YouTube and Google Video are excellent portals on which to launch a viral campaign.
  46. Giving away an eBook is an excellent way to generate word-of-mouth about your site.
  47. Sponsor a WordPress theme or a phpListDirectory template.
  48. If you sell products that are advertised on television by the manufacturer, add “As Seen on TV” to your site!
  49. Learn about CSS. It’s the new HTML : http://www.w3schools.com/css/
  50. Contribute to related subject areas on Wikipedia.
  51. Ask bloggers and other Web site owners to review your site and/or products.
  52. Have user friendly page names – most tools comes with some way to avoid http://www.yourdomain.com/pgInfoPages.as…AEDAF8DD9D
  53. If you must have a Flash homepage, make sure you have a “Skip Intro” link.
  54. Become a leading authority on your chosen subject.
  55. Donate money to a charity and most will place a link on their site back to you.
  56. Abide to W3C standards – it will help your site in the long term.
  57. Publisise your site on related forums – but don’t spam!
  58. Add a “Tell a Friend” function to your site, so people can easily recommend you to their mates.
  59. Have a Sitemap on your site to allow users to navigate around quickly and to aid the search engines.
  60. Have a nice keyword rich title at the top of each of your pages. Users and search engines both like descriptive titles – www.google.com/webmasters
  61. Include a Feedburner button on your site so people can easily subscribe to your feed.
  62. If you use PPC then create a landing page for each of your AdWords – it’ll boost your conversations no end.
  63. Create a Press section on your site where you store all your press releases, logos and banners.
  64. Add a link to your site from within your eBay profile.
  65. Ask your friends to give you honest feedback on your site.
  66. The best way to find someone to do any kind of work on your site is through personal recommendation.
  67. Gain exposure by submitting photos and pictures to Flikr.
  68. Share your banners on banner exchange sites.
  69. Make sure it’s easy for your users to subscribe to your RSS feed.
  70. Ask friends, colleagues and associates to “Favourite” your blog on Technorati.
  71. Response to your customer’s emails promptly, even if it is with a simply auto-responder. No one likes to wait 3 or 4 days for an acknowledgement of their contact with you.
  72. Get a professional Copywriter to give your site a once over. If you are on a tight budget, limit to the just the homepage.
  73. What did you learn today? Tell other people and they might learn something too.
  74. Do you have really hot content on your site that geeks would love? If so Slashdot will bring you a mass of traffic.
  75. Meta tags might carry less weight than previously, but you should still have them on every page.
  76. Google Analytics is free and will tell you all you need to know about who’s visiting your site.
  77. Don’t be afraid to link to other sites, especially if they are relevant and to highly respected sites.
  78. Keep It Simple Stupid: use CSS to control layout, style and colours and use HTML text rather than graphics to represent text.
  79. Validate your HTML and CSS. It’ll help ensure your site displays well in all browsers.
  80. Small pages sizes and optimised graphics will give your site a snappy feel and won’t require users to wait around for it to load.
  81. Make sure you have a robots.txt file in the root of your Web site – http://www.robotstxt.org/
  82. Ebooks with re-seller rights make an excellent “free gift” for your site.
  83. Don’t buy traffic. It’s un-targeted and won’t convert.
  84. .Test, test, test. Your flushing money down the toilet if your not testing to see what campaigns are bringing you in the most money compared to which ones are costing you money. When you test, you can eliminate the campaigns that are costing you dollars so that you can properly maximize your marketing efforts. Without proper testing, you are pretty much lost and can’t improve. You can only guess to what has or what is working.

I received a bounced message for an email that I did not send, or I received a complaint from someone saying I sent a virus, but I didn’t send the email

Email messages can be forged. An email sender can simply change the “From:” field in their email program, or in more advanced cases, forge addresses through the SMTP protocol, inserting any email address in the “MAIL FROM:” section of the message.

Spammers often harvest email addresses by spidering web sites or forums, or through viruses which can harvest an infected computer’s contact lists. They use these harvested address in the “From” and “Reply-to” fields of their outgoing messages to avoid dealing with the complaints generated by the spam.

What is the difference between DNS Transfer and Domain Registrar Transfer?

You can sign up for any of our services using a domain name that you already own. After successful order submission, we will set up your account instantly. In order to get your domain name to function with our hosting platform, you will need to perform a DNS Transfer.

DNS Transfer: You will simply need to update your domain’s name servers to point to our DNS. You should be able to accomplish this using the web interface provided by your domain registrar. Your current domain registrar will continue to manage your domain.

Please note, that ‘DNS Transfer’ is different than a ‘Domain Registrar Transfer’. A domain registrar transfer is when you transfer your domain from your current domain registrar to another domain registrar. For example, after a Domain Registrar Transfer, you would pay a different company for your domain renewal fees.
